I’ve had this idea yanking on my insides for a really long time now. It has to do with music and how, when you get right down to it, nothing has really changed much since 1979. It’s a theory.
1979 was an important year. A rap song found a home on the Billboard Top 40 for the first time. The Sony Walkman debuted. MTV began — sort of (more on that in a future post). The first school shooting happened, and inspired a song that made its way into the Billboard Hot 100. Sid Vicious died. The Compact Disc was pretty much invented. McDonald’s introduced the Happy Meal. ESPN went on the air. A British singer basically invented the headset microphone. I could go on.
And I plan to. One of the main reasons I moved my website from a gallery-only situation for my photography to one that supported blogging is for this very reason. So in keeping with the post’s title, I hope to publish some short essays which I will one day stitch together into a long form article which itself will be a jumping off point for a book. We’ll see how it goes.
